About Alphabet
Alphabet is the parent company of Google, and remains, notwithstanding a decade of diversification into cloud computing, hardware, and moonshot research bets, still fundamentally an advertising and search company — one now racing to prove that generative AI strengthens rather than disrupts that core business. Founded in 1998 as Google and reorganized under the Alphabet holding structure in 2015, the Mountain View, California company crossed $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time in its most recent fiscal year, with first-quarter 2026 revenue of $109.9 billion, up 22% year over year.
How Alphabet Market Cap Is Calculated
Alphabet's market capitalization is calculated by multiplying its total shares outstanding — the number of shares the company has actually issued to shareholders, as reported in its financial filings — by the current share price. It changes constantly as the share price moves, and also shifts whenever the company issues new shares, buys back existing ones, or splits its stock. Market cap is a market-value measure, not a statement of the company's assets or revenue: two companies with identical market caps can have very different underlying financials.
